At Hope East, we affirm the essential beliefs of the Christian faith as expressed through the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed.  Central to our beliefs are the following:

about God

We believe in God as: 1) the Father almighty, the creator of all things; 2) Jesus Christ the son, who came down from heaven as fully divine and fully man, chose to suffer and die to atone for our sins, only to rise and ascend, and will one day come again; 3) Holy Spirit, the giver of life and the means to connect us daily with the Father and Son.

1) “Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” - Isaiah 43:10

2) “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” - John 11:25-26

3) “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.” - John 15:26

Our Problem

Man was created in the image of God to have and long for relationship with Him, but we are alienated in that relationship as a result of sin/disobedience. As such, we are incapable through our efforts of regaining that relationship with Him because of our brokenness.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned” - Romans 5:12

God’s Response to Our Problem

Jesus Christ suffered on the cross for our sins in our stead, mending our relationship with God and restoring our lives. Through Christ, we now have direct access to God and to the kingdom of heaven; we cannot earn such a sacrifice, we only need to have faith.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16

salvation

We receive salvation when we accept the message of cross and come to God in faith. It is not by our works, but only through the acceptance of the grace God has freely given us. An outward expression of our commitment to this faith is through baptism.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” - Ephesians 2:8

The Church

The Christian church, which is the body of Jesus Christ (more than a mere building), is a spiritual organism made up of those who are the followers of Him. The intent of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through the love He has shown us.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another” - Hebrews 10:24-25

Scriptures

We believe the Scriptures are inspired by God and the central authority in faith and in life. We seek to apply biblical principles to all facets of human aspiration and action.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
